Burgess
Hill Town Youth marched into the Final of the Sussex County
Cup for the second successive season beating Shoreham Youth
3-1 away at Shorehams County ground.
On
paper it would have been Burgess Hill who went into the
game slight favourites. With Burgess Hill top of the Ryman
Youth League South Division and Shoreham unbeaten and top
of the County Youth League it was always going to be a very
close game.
It
was Burgess Hill who should have taken an early lead when
Hill striker Max Miller broke into the six yard box, he
seemed sure to score but edged his shot just wide of the
goal. On 30 minutes Shoreham had a chance to take the lead
but Andy Edwards in the Hill goal came off his line well
to save low at the feet of the Shoreham striker.
It
was Burgess Hill who took the lead on 40 minutes when Shoreham's
keeper failed to deal with a cross the ball was volleyed
goalbound by Hill's Max Miller and his shot hit the crossbar
before coming back down and going in off a Shoreham player.
Shoreham
came close to the equaliser on 62 minutes when their striker
pushed the ball past Edwards in the Hill goal only to see
Fenton hook the ball off the line for Hill.
The
Hillians increased the lead on 75 minutes when the hard
working Max Miller broke down the right and crossed for
Kit Tregear to shoot. Tregear's effort was well saved but
the ball came back to Hill's Seb Saunders to slam the ball
home and make it 2-0 the Burgess Hill.
The
goal of the game came from Hill's Harley Button on 80 minutes
he took up the ball in his own half and outpaced the Shoreham
defence before playing a neat one two with team mate Seb
Saunders and finishing in style to make it 3-0 and put the
game beyond Shoreham.
Shoreham
scored late on but it was to be Burgess Hill who go into
the Sussex County Cup final for the second year running.

HASTINGS
YOUTH

The
young Hillians top the Ryman Youth South table after a comfortable
and yet hard fought win against Hastings Youth.
Hill
ran out four goal winners and yet for long periods the game
could have gone either way.
At
half time the game remained goaless partly due to some magnificent
goalkeeping from the Hastings keeper who had a fine night
dispite the scoreline.
Early
in the second half Hill took the lead through Seb Saunders
who latched onto a cross from the left. Seb turned neatly
in the six yard box and finished in style. With the game
70 minutes old and finely balance Hill's Luke Donaldson
put the game beyond Hastings scoring two goals in the space
of two minutes to make it 3-0.
The
lively and hard working Max Miller completed the 4-0 scoreline
with a somewhat fortunate goal crossing high from the right,
the height of the ball decieved the Hastings keeper and
dropped just inside the left hand post.
Hill
Youth
now go into Sundays County cup semi final against Shoreham
(shoreham county ground 11.00am ko) in what is likely to
be a very entertaining match. With the first team away on
the Saturday it would be great to see as much Black and
Yellow around Shorehams ground to lift the boys on the way
to what could be a an unpresidented County Cup double.
An
exciting couple of weeks await the Burgess Hill Youth team
With Sundays County Cup match Followed by a trip to Whitehawk
on the 1st feb and then at home to Lewes on the 6th of Feb.
A
week that is likely to have a significant impact on the
youth teams season .........YOUR SUPPORT IS VERY WELCOME

The
young Hillians marched into the semi final of the Sussex
u18 County cup beating Lewes Youth 3-1 away at the Dripping
pan.
Manager
Ashley Carr was happy that he had a strong side available
to challenge what was on paper the strongest opponents left
in the competition.. Conditions were not the best the pitch
was frosty in places and slippery underfoot.
The
game started evenly both sides finding their feet early
on . It was Hill that took an early lead on 6mins when an
Oliver Lockyer free kick was swung in from the left , the
ball was headed back across goal for Hills Pat Soan to score
from close range.
Lewes
then began to raise their game and for the rest of the half
had more of the play . Tom Betts in the Hill goal was by
far the busier of the two keepers.
In
the second half the game was more even but in the 65min
Hill extended the lead with a goal from Seb Saunders . Saunders
broke clear of the Lewes defence and coolly slotted past
the onrushing keeper to make it 2-0.
The
lead was to last just two Minutes Lewes were straight back
in the match scoring a carbon copy of Hills second. Hill
Keeper Betts was unable two stop the Lewes striker who finished
in style to make it 2-1.
This game could have gone either way and both keepers made
fine saves to keep their teams in the match.
On
70 mins Hill striker Max Miller sealed the victory with
a trade mark goal . His blistering pace took him away from
the Lewes defence and round the keeper to make it 3-1 and
send the young Hill into the semi final where they will
meet Shoreham youth away at the Manor ground on 29th January.
ManagerAshley Carr was up beat about the result he commented
Beating a team of that quality away from home was very pleasing
, the performance was not the best but its the result that
keeps us in the competition and just two games from retaining
the u18 County Cup which would be the most amazing achievement.

Lewes
Under 18s lost for the first time at the Dripping Pan this
season, going down 1-4 to a strong Burgess Hill side.
A Layton Schaaf strike put the Rooks ahead for a first half
lead, but the visitors worked their way back into the game,
drawing level just after half time and going on to score
another three before the final whistle. With Wednesday night's
Ryman League Cup game in mind, the Rooks were missing Bayan
Fenwick, Solly March and Max Howell and their absence was
certainly a factor in the result as Lewes struggled to wrestle
control from the visitors after the break.
Lewes drop to fourth place after this result, having been
leapfrogged by Hastings United who beat Eastbourne United,
and the Hillians, with Worthing remaining a point above
the Rooks.

EASTBOURNE TOWN YOUTH

Even
the rain coming down slowly but consistently and the arctic
cold temperatures, a good crowd still came out to support
the Hillians. With Oli Lockyer back from trial at Leyton
Orient and Kit Tregear back from trial at Sunderland, this
looked like an opportunity for a good win.
Half
way through the first half Eastbourne Town took the lead.
This boosted their confidence but not their performance
as Kit Tregear equalised on 35 minutes. With the score now
level, the tempo picked up and both sides went on the attack.
The Hillians came out the victors of this battle of stamina
as seven minutes later Brandon Willis secured The Hillians
a second goal. With just 3 minutes until the half time whistle,
The Hillians pushed on to try and get a third goal. They
came extremely close several times. However close doesn't
count. Goals are the ones every team wants.
The
half time whistle was blown and both teams headed back to
the changing rooms.
When the second half begun, both teams were desperate for
the next goal to be theirs. Hill held the posession well
but after a small mistake 15 minutes in, Eastbourne clinched
the equsliser they had so desperately needed. On the 72nd
minute Harley Button was replaced by Alex Strange. It was
a naturally fast game and 100% effort was given by each
and every playerin a yellow and black shirt. This became
evident when The Hillians took the lead again on 76 minutes
with a confident, effortless goal from Luke Donaldson. Hill
were still piling on the pressure and pushing for that fourth
goal. They came close on the 84th minute when the woodwork
was rattled. However two minutes later the luck did go Hill's
way and Eastbourne Town scored a clumsy own goal. This brought
the score up to 4-2 to the home side.
Eastbourne started to attack and very nearly got a goal
back in the closing stages of the game. On 88 minutes Luke
Donaldson and Tom Bold came off for Jack Agate and Stevie
Cummins to have a crack at squeezing one more goal out of
this determined Eastbourne Town side. With Eastbourne still
playing in attack mode, there was a great sigh of relief
when the final whistle blew.
Another set of warm welcomed 3 points for The Hillians as
they clinch their third league win of the season. A well
earnt victory and great performance from The Youth of Burgess
Hill Town F.C.

The
young Hillians found themselves a goal down in just 1 minute
when Hills Brandon Willis allowed the ball to slip under
his foot just inside his own half . The Horsham striker
pounced and finished well giving his side an early lead.
Hill
then began to get into gear and Jack Agate levelled on 18
minutes finishing off after good work from Luke Donaldson
down the left flank.
On
27 minites Kit Tregear put Hill in front after Stevie Cummings
beat his man and crossed low for Tregear to tap in from
close range to make it 2-1.
Tom
Bold made it 3-1 on 40 minutes scoring from the spot. On
50 minutes Luke Donaldson scored latching on to a through
ball from Hill's Josh Fawssett to make it 4-1. Donaldson
scored again on 52 minutes finishing well from a Tregear
cross 5-1.
On
63 minutes Luke Donaldson rounded off a fine spell of play
and completed his hatrick to make it 6-1.
On 65 miutes Hill manager Ashley Carr gave a debut to Harley
Button. Button slotted into left midfield and made an instant
impact. His quick feet and control saw him go past several
Horsham players before unleashing an unstoppable shot only
for the referee to overule due to alledged infringement.
Button
then had a hand in Hill's 7th goal, he beat his man and
crossed for Josh Fawssett to finish from close range.
Button
then got the goal he deserved, he broke into the box and
slotted home to make it 8-1. Hill had time for one more
goal and it went to Harley Button who scored his second
on 90 minutes with a great shot from the edge of the box
capping a fine debut and overal display from Hill's young
hopefulls.

It's
not often the young Hillians let a two goal advantage slip
but that's exactly what happened against Horsham Y.M.C.A.
Luke
Donaldson opened the scoring on 30 minutes, latching on
to a through ball to finish in style.
Donaldson
was involved in Hill's second on 37 minutes when he beat
his man and crossed for Seb Saunders to finish from close
range.
Hill
came out for the second half seemingly in control of the
game but Horsham had other ideas and never gave up.
They
gave themselves a lifeline on 60 minutes when Tom Betts
in the Hill goal made a fine save only to see the ball fall
straight to a Horsham player who made no mistake making
to make 2-1.
Horsham
then had the bit between their teeth scoring twice more
in quick sucsession to take the lead and make the score
3-2.
Hill
saved the day and salvaged a point on 80 minutes when Kit
Tregear flicked on a corner and Luke Donaldson nodded home
from close range to make the final score 3-3.

The

than five debutants.
The game was played in the manner that both first team managers
would have appreciated. The ball was passed effectively
throughout as both teams were encouraged to play the passing
game.
It was Burgess Hill who took the lead on 48mins when Hills
Brandon Willis carried the ball forward before passing to
striker Max Miller. Miller outpaced his marker before pulling
the ball back from the touch line for Willis to finish in
style.
Hill increased the lead when debutant Luke Donaldson hit
an unstoppable shot from all of 30yds that soared into the
Bognor net leaving the keeper with no chance.
